Why do you use Stainless Steel Screws and Bolts? |

The same naturally occurring oils that make cedar decay and insect resistant also react with galvanized and zinc coated fasteners, eventually causing unsightly stains, marks and streaks everywhere they come into contact with the cedar. This is a process that is greatly accelerated near coastal areas. Galvanized and zinc coated fasteners are also vulnerable to oxidization which may cause rust stains to appear.
Stainless steel does not react in any way with cedar and does not weaken over time due to oxidization. Stainless steel is simply a superior metal. |

Is the furniture hard to assemble? |

No! Some of our furniture already comes fully assembled, so all you need to do is unwrap it and start enjoying it! The pieces that do require some assembly are quick and easy to complete, and come with easy to follow instructions. About 10 to 15 minutes is the most you’ll probably spend on any piece.
We do not sell “kits” that require a lot of work, special tools and which are not fully finished. All of our furniture is ready to use, occasionally with just a few screws, nuts and bolts to put in.

How do I request your laser etching / engraving service? |

For all items that can be laser etched (which is just about every item), you will be presented with that option on Step 2 of the checkout process. When you select the item on which you want the engraving done, simply click on that window and follow the instructions that will ask you what you would like engraved. Be sure to type everything correctly. Check your spelling several times just to be sure. |

You may have forgotten to type in the quantity you wish to order. We usually ship out twice per week, but sometimes more often. We use FedEx and their affiliates to transport all of our goods within North America. They say they take 5-7 business days to deliver an item once it has been picked up, but quite often it is faster.
If you have time constraints and you require delivery before a certain day (e.g. if it is for a gift), please contact us to discuss your needs. Often we can ship within 1 day on request.

What maintenance is required for my Adirondack Chair Works furniture? |

It is not absolutely necessary to do anything to maintain your furniture, although if it is treated with stain and brought indoors during the winter the service life of your furniture will be greatly increased. If left untreated and unstained, it will weather to a beautiful silvery patina gray color.
If you choose to order the furniture treated, or decide to stain it yourself, a renewal application of Cetol 1 by Sikkens should be applied every 1.5 - 2 years, depending on your furniture’s condition and exposure to the elements. Sometimes every 3-4 years is sufficient. It is a judgement call on your part how often you want to do it, but at the end of the day it must be done if you wish to retain the new look of it.

Can I leave the furniture outside all year? |

Our furniture has no problem standing up to the elements because of the strength and stability of cedar and because we use stainless steel fasteners. You can leave it outdoors all year round. If properly maintained, we expect our furniture to last for decades if left outdoors year after year. If you bring it inside each winter and take good care of it then it could last forever. |

Why is Cetol 1 by Sikkens the best stain to use on cedar? |

Cetol 1 is flexible and allows the wood to breath, yet repels water so that it beads on the surface (very important in protecting the wood. Cetol 1 also has a fungicide to help protect it against fungal growth (important in humid or coastal climates) as well as contains a UV inhibitor that protects the wood from graying due to exposure to the sun. It does not crack, chip, blister or peel, and will help prevent “checking” of the wood (term used to describe when the grain raises up).
